History

Nortel Networks/Netas was established in 1967 as a joint venture between Turkish PTT, now Türk Telekom and Northern Telecom Limited (Nortel Networks Corporation) of Canada with the aim of supplying Turkey with locally manufactured telecommunications equipment.

The Company has played a major role in the modernisation of the telecommunications infrastructure in Turkey by supplying approximately 10,5 million lines of switching equipment as well as transmission and datacom systems to Türk Telekom. In the private communications market, Nortel Network/Netas has delivered 1,5 million lines of switching equipment to 40,000 customers and has supplied more than 70% of ISP infrastructure in Turkey. The Company complements its technology and market leadership with locally designed and manufactured products and services.

Nortel Networks/Netas is one of the largest technology exporter in Turkey. The Company has a wide customer base in the international market and its export activities have been focused on markets where Nortel Networks/Netas has a strong presence. These markets consist of Russian Federation, Kazakhistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh and North Cyprus Turkish Republic. Nortel Networks/Netas has developed from a technology importing company to a technology exporting one through the years and has been increasing the software export to its major shareholder Nortel Networks and its international markets excluding the North America.

Nortel Networks/Netas company values are built on the "Total Quality" philosophy which requires use of benchmarks from R&D to marketing to customer service and to aim to supply 100% customer satisfaction by offering total solutions. Nortel Networks/Netas' commitment to exceed the expectations of its customers, employees, suppliers and other stakeholders, drives the company towards business excellence. In this respect, the consistent efforts by Nortel Networks/Netas have resulted in remarkable achievements such as the TÜSIAD- KALDER Quality Award in 1995, European Quality Prizes given by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) in 1996,1997 and 1998.

Nortel Networks/Netas is the first Turkish Telecommunication Company to receive the ISO 14001 Environment Certificate. The Company has also ISO 9001 and AQAP (Allied Quality Assurance Publications) 110 Certificates.

Since 1998, Nortel Networks/Netas has been surveying its customers expectations with "Customer Surveys" which is made by an independent research company. High customer loyalty is as important as high customer satisfaction to Nortel Networks/Netas. The Company's "Customer Loyalty" values increased from 35% in 2000 to 43% in 2001. The other customer satisfaction indicator "Loyalty Index" has been measured as 79 which is much higher than European and world standards. This achievement is a result of Nortel Networks/Netas customer-focused working.
