Completel, Swisscom Select Nortel Networks Contivity for Managed Security Solutions
LONDON – Completel and Swisscom Enterprise Solutions have deployed Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSE: NT] Contivity* products to meet growing demand from their enterprise customers for increased network security. Both use Contivity Virtual Private Network (VPN) Switches, allowing customers to take advantage of IP (Internet Protocol) networks in a more secure environment. "In spite of the large number of competing VPN products on the market, only Nortel Networks Contivity VPN Switch demonstrated the combination of functionality and performance that we knew was necessary to satisfy our demands," said Theodor Brueggermann, corporate communications, Service Development, Swisscom. "Nortel Networks Contivity VPN switch has enabled us to add secure VPNs to our platform, providing our enterprise customers with a highly adaptable yet simple service," said Jean-François Golhen, vice president, marketing, Completel. "We truly feel Contivity provides us with a competitive, upgradeable, flexible product which allows us to deliver a high quality IP-VPN data network which is supervised 24 hours a day, seven days a week." The managed security services market is expected to reach US$46 billion by 2005, according to IDC. Managed security services enable greater access to data while minimising security breaches and managing IT related costs. "As enterprises struggle to find the balance between rigorous security and reducing communications costs, managed VPN solutions using devices such as Nortel Networks Contivity VPN switch allow enterprises to enjoy many of the benefits of a private network, but without the high cost of dedicated circuits," said Ian Williams, senior security analyst, Datamonitor. "Such VPN solutions allow companies to create cost-effective, secure connections between branch offices, home workers and outside strategic suppliers, giving them the ability to extend network access without compromising security or exhausting their IT budgets," Williams said. Helping enterprises and carriers deliver high value IP services is a key objective of Nortel Networks Contivity portfolio. Secure VPNs enable businesses to leverage existing applications and develop new ones, resulting in more secure, more reliable networks. Businesses can also take advantage of options such as a network/policy management and IP-based mobility offerings for a customized solution. "Nortel Networks provides the technology solutions and comprehensive support our enterprise and service provider customers need now," said Paul Renucci, president, Metro and Enterprise Networks, Nortel Networks EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa). "Our work with companies such as Completel and Swisscom Enterprise Solutions is a great example of how the combination of technology and teamwork can bring increased value to our customers." As Nortel Networks customer premise-based, purpose built IP services platform, Contivity allows service providers to offer a range of security services. Contivity’s integrated capabilities – including IPSec tunneling, stateful firewalling; PKI, authentication, directory services (LDAP), network address translation (NAT), and IP routing – are designed to provide end users with more reliable and scalable network security and remote access at reduced cost. Nortel Networks Contivity VPN was the market share leader in customer premise-based IP VPN gateways for the fourth quarter of 2001, according to Synergy Research Group. Nortel Networks is an industry leader and innovator focused on transforming how the world communicates and exchanges information. The company is supplying its service provider and enterprise customers with communications technology and infrastructure to enable value-added IP data, voice and multimedia services spanning Metro and Enterprise Networks, Wireless Networks and Optical Long Haul Networks.
