WIN Selects Nortel Networks Technology for Indonesian CDMA2000 1xEV-DO NetworkAdvanced Wireless Data Network to Enable High-Speed Wireless Internet Services JAKARTA, Indonesia – PT Wireless Indonesia (WIN) www.wireless.net.id**, a new Indonesian mobile data telecommunications network and service provider, has selected Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSX: NT] as preferred technology supplier for a nationwide ITU IMT2000 Standard CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (Data Optimized) third generation (3G) network to enable delivery of wireless Internet, video streaming, mobile VPN (virtual private network) and other, next generation wireless data services. Subject to completion by WIN of third-party financing arrangements, WIN plans to launch this new mobile data network in the first quarter of 2003, initially in Jakarta. This is expected to be the first commercial deployment of Nortel Networks Univity* CDMA2000 1xEV-DO solution in the ASEAN region. This comprehensive 3G solution will position WIN, operating in the 1900MHz frequency spectrum with 10MHz bandwidth, to provide wireless data transmission with peak rates up to 2.4 megabits per second while optimizing network efficiencies and decreasing deployment costs. Nortel Networks CDMA2000 1xEV-DO solution for WIN will include CDMA Metro Cell Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) equipped for 1xEV-DO. Enabling cost-effective network growth with an 'expand-as-you-grow' strategy, Metro Cell BTS supports CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO, IS-95 and 800/1900MHz, all in a single BTS. Metro Cell BTS also provides seamless evolution to CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO for operators with existing wireless network infrastructure. Nortel Networks has announced wireless contracts estimated to be worth approximately US$3 billion in 2002.
