Moving beyond the simple conveyance of data, Advanced Business Connectivity initiative takes a holistic approach to improving each user's access to information while eliminating the boundaries associated with traditional communications infrastructure. Robust, Resilient LAN
A robust, resilient LAN provides secure connectivity between an enterprise's vital infrastructure-application servers, information storage, computers, telephony servers, and telephony handsets. Nortel Networks Passport Routing Switches, Passport 8600 and 1000 series, provide the wire-speed Layer 2-7 application performance, resiliency, and security required by today's application-driven enterprise networks and data centers. With the addition of an Alteon Web Switching Module and an Alteon 8661 SSL Acceleration Module, the Passport 8600 supports intelligent traffic management and SSL acceleration capabilities. Nortel Networks BayStack Ethernet Switches provide small, medium, and large enterprises with high throughput networking and Layer 2 aggregation capabilities at low per-port costs. The Passport and BayStack switches support a wide range of QoS, high-availability, and security capabilities that enable enterprise networks to support critical business applications such as voice over IP and CRM.
Application Switching
Application switching solutions improve application performance, ease scalability, ensure maximum utilization of infrastructure, and provide multi-layer security. Nortel Networks Alteon Application Switch 2000 Series switches are multi-application switching systems that perform wire-speed Layer 2/3 switching and high-performance Layer 4-7 intelligent traffic management for enterprise applications. Common uses include server and network device load balancing, application redirection, multi-layer security, and bandwidth management. Alteon Web Switches provide similar functionality and are designed for lower port-density requirements. The Alteon Application Switch 2424-SSL includes integrated SSL acceleration and SSL VPN capabilities.
Simplified Inter-Site Connectivity
Simplified inter-site connectivity extends an enterprise's critical communications infrastructure beyond a single site. Nortel Networks Optical Ethernet solutions extend enterprise LAN environments across the MAN and WAN, leveraging the ubiquity of Ethernet and the power of optics. Passport WAN solutions allow the creation of a network infrastructure that enables multi-service network applications. Contivity Secure IP Services Gateways provide routing, VPN, firewall, bandwidth management, encryption, authentication, and data integrity for secure site-to-site connectivity across managed IP networks and the Internet. The Alteon Content Cache improves static and streaming application performance and optimizes bandwidth across wide area networks by caching frequently accessed content closer to end users in enterprise and branch offices.
Secure, Remote Connectivity
Secure, remote connectivity solutions allow enterprises to provide secure, high-performance remote access to applications for employees, customers, and partners, independent of location. Contivity Secure IP Services Gateways provide Layer 2-3 VPN connectivity between remote users and enterprise networks. The Alteon SSL VPN extends the reach of enterprise applications using SSL as the underlying security protocol to provide unrestricted remote access and application-level authentication using the ubiquitous Web browser as the primary client interface. The Alteon SSL Accelerator is a fully-featured Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) appliance that integrates SSL acceleration, SSL extranet management and secure application services into a single device.
